Montreal led off the scoring in the first quarter with an impressive first drive, to be finished with a 47-yard field goal from Damon Duval. Quarterback Anthony Calvillo looked good coming out for the start, completing a 17-yard pass, then followed by a 13-yard pass. Running back Robert Edwards also got a decent start in the first series with a five-yard run. However, Calvillo couldn't convert on a 2/5 and only managed to pick up 1 yard, to set up Duval for his kick. But after this great start to the game, Montreal would score no more points in the quarter.
Quarterback Jason Maas was not to be out done on his team's first drive of the game. He led his team to an eventual 2-yard run for a Hamilton touchdown on the 13th play of the game. On the ensuing punt, Montreal half back Chip Cox blocked the punt. Hamilton recovered the ball but could not move it and turned the ball over on downs.

Calvillo and Montreal were able to capitalize on this tremendous return with a 36-yard touchdown pass to slot back Thyron Anderson. At the end of the third quarter, Hamilton 27 - Montreal 31.
Maas got the ball late in the third quarter and took the ball deep into Montreal territory at the beginning of the fourth quarter. However, the Montreal defense kept the Ticats from reaching the end zone. So, they had to settle for a 9-yard field goal.
