The Hamilton Tiger-Cats extending their pre-season win streak to three games with a 35-23 victory on the road against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Turnovers were the key to the first half. The Ticats jumped out in front thanks to a costly turnover by the Blue Bombers. Quarterback Brad Banks was intercepted by linebacker Jamacia Jackson who returned the ball 29 yards to the Winnipeg 10. Two plays later, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Shaun King ran it in for a five-yard touchdown.

Moments later, King was intercepted by Winnipeg linebacker Kyries Hebert, who returned it 68 yards for a touchdown. Hamilton led 8-7 after 15 minutes.

Banks was intercepted again early in the second quarter which was returned by Dwight Anderson 24 yards for a touchdown.

Timmy Chang replaced King in the second quarter and looked strong, completing a 34-yard pass to Nathaniel Curry for another Ticats touchdown. But the Blue Bombers fought back late in the half when Justin Holland connected with Terrence Edwards on a 78-yard scoring play to pull Winnipeg within 22-14.

Holland, however, gave that play back when he was intercepted by Richard Karikari who returned the ball 46 yards to the Winnipeg three-yard line. Chang completed a touchdown pass to Kori Dickerson to put the Ticats in front 29-14 at halftime.

The Tiger-Cats added more points on another turnover, when Winnipeg’s Dominique Dorsey was stripped of the ball on the opening kickoff of the third quarter by Raquan Pride. Mark Myers kicked a 43-yard field goal to put Hamilton in front 32-14.

Holland drove the Blue Bombers 94 yards on 16 plays to conclude the quarter, cutting Winnipeg’s deficit to 32-21 when he threw a 10-yard touchdown pass on third down to Kerry Johnson. Holland completed a 10-yard pass to Arjei Franklin on a third down play earlier in the drive.

Myers added another field goal in the fourth quarter, and the Ticats conceded a safety to complete the scoring in the fourth quarter.

King went 4-for-12 for 29 yards and one interception in his CFL debut. He ran in an eight-yard major. Chang, completed 10 of 17 passes for 241 yards.

Banks went 1-for-7 for four yards and two picks before giving way to Holland. He went 12-for-20 for 160 yards with two TDs and one interception.

The Tiger-Cats swept their two pre-season games against the Toronto Argonauts in 2006. The Blue Bombers lost both pre-season games to the Montreal Alouettes last season.

The Ticats scored 35 or more points just once in 2006, a 41-38 loss to the Alouettes on July 20.

Both teams will play each other one more time before the regular season at Hamilton’s Ivor Wynne Stadium on June 22.
