The Hamilton Tiger Cats went into the Rogers Center to face the Toronto Argonauts. The result of the contest continued Hamilton's streak from last season, that is losing on the road. Final score, Hamilton 17 - Toronto 27.
The big draw for the fans today was to see the fully shorn Ricky Williams in his first CFL game. Early on, Williams was used primarily as a decoy, with the Tiger Cats keying on him throughout the game. In the first half, Williams only managed 8 total yards on the run. He did get some passes thrown to him, mostly on the swing pass and ended the game with 2 receptions for 24 yards. But, he also dropped or was overthrown for more chances. Ricky Williams broke out for the second half rushing 90 yards, one rush for 35 yards.
The Argos lost a key member of the offense when QB Damon Allen, a 21-year player in the league, went out of the game in the first series of the game with a broken middle finger on his throwing hand. Up to that point, Allen went 1 for 2 for 15 yards. In stepped, then, back-up QB Spergon Wynn who threw for a touchdown in his first pass attempt. Wynn finished the game 18 for 28 for 224 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception.
Toronto led the whole game. The first quarter ended with the score of Toronto 8 - Hamilton 7. The second quarter showed more Toronto offense in posting an 18 - 13 lead by halftime. The third quarter was all field goals, score 24 - 16.
QB Jason Maas, out of Oregon, had a decent showing for the Tiger Cats in a losing effort going 25 of 34 for 240 yards, with 0 touchdowns and two interceptions.
