Hal Wilder (Harold Fremont Wilder) was born on February 8, 1893 in Merrick, Nebraska. After going to high school at Central City (NE), Wilder attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska. Wilder made his professional debut in the NFL in 1923 with the St. Louis All-Stars. He played for the St. Louis All-Stars for his entire 1 year career.
