Born on May 20, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan, Hal Newhouser (Harold Newhouser) played for the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians over the course of his 17 year career. Newhouser broke into the bigs on September 29, 1939 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 4.86 ERA in 133.1 innings pitched in 1940, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Hal Newhouser's best season was 1946, when he posted a 1.94 ERA, won 26 games and struck out 275 batters.
