Hal Lauer (Harold Sebastian Lauer) was born on January 8, 1898 in Monroe, Michigan. After going to high school at James Monroe (Detroit, MI), Lauer attended the University of Detroit Mercy. Lauer made his professional debut in the NFL in 1922 with the Rock Island Independents. He played for the Detroit Panthers, Toledo Maroons and Rock Island Independents over the course of his 4 year career.
