Hal Griffen (Harold Winslow Griffen) was born on March 1, 1902 in Sioux City, Iowa. After going to high school at Sioux City (IA), Griffen attended the University of Iowa. Griffen made his professional debut in the AFLG in 1926 with the New York Yankees. He played in the AFLG for 1 year, playing for the New York Yankees the entire time. Griffen also played in the NFL for 3 years, playing for the Portsmouth Spartans and Green Bay Packers over the course of his 3 year NFL career.
