Born on May 17, 1892 in Rockford, Illinois, Hal Carlson (Harold Gust Carlson) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 14 year career. Carlson broke into the bigs on April 13, 1917 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 2.90 ERA in 161.1 innings pitched in 1917, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Hal Carlson's best season was 1926, when he posted a 3.23 ERA, won 17 games and struck out 55 batters.
