by user Woodsmeister

According to the Plain Dealer, Cleveland Indians designated hitter Travis Hafner will sign a $57 million extension tomorrow.

The contract is reported to be for four additional years, bringing Hafner under team control through the 2012 season.

This leaves C.C. Sabathia as the only core Cleveland Indian player not under contract with the team through 2010.

That's just a great deal all the way around. Cleveland locks up their most dangerous hitter, and Hafner gets $57 million and job security. It's a win-win.

Hafner: $14.25 MM/yr during his prime

Ichiro: $20.00 MM/yr during his downside

Hmm. Bargain.

Ichiro gets more because he plays defense, instead of sitting in the clubhouse while his teammates play defense.

I see that mad money season has already started in baseball. A side effect of this may be the Phillies deciding not to do a long term deal with Ryan Howard after this season.

THANK GOD! Now Pronk can relax and get into his groove for the second half. I'm glad his agent finally shut up and let Hafner sign. (And now my dog's name is safe for another four years!)

Awesome. Since he's in a slump now's the time to get him locked up, when others aren't begging for him. Great, great move by Cleveland.

That's a good point. Hafner is in a slump, but will come out of it, hopefully soon for the Indians. If the Indians still have trust in him, and the Indians are STILL doing very well, that's a great decision for both Hafner and the Indians. Good move all around..
