HEY, Shut Up!

Roger Goodell handed out his punishment onto the Patriots and Bill Belichick, for the alleged video taping of the Jets signals. Now I don’t agree with what he did but I think people should shut up. The man is still one of the best football coaches in today’s game. He made a mistake. He wanted to be better than he was and he attempted to get ahead, he screwed up. You have done it. I have done it; everyone wants to be better and screws up on something.

Let's look at what happened, shall we. A Patriot staff member was video taping a Jet coach giving signals to the defense. Awful, I agree, he should have been punished and has been. Now let’s break it down. By the information I have picked up by watching the sports channels and reading the papers, 3-4 people stand on the sidelines and give the defensive signals. Only one gives the right signals. So now you have to videotape all four, then tape the play and match it to the signals, given out to the players. Is it possible to do and have for the next play? I highly doubt it.

Now come on, people have cheated before. Look at a certain team who hooked microphones up to the Pat’s so they could here the play call. I would say that is worse, much worse. How about the cheap shots. A Tennessee Titan threw a low hit on Rodney Harrison last year and injured his knee, causing him to take HGH to get over the injury quickly. Does that make it right? No, not at all. But everybody takes some sort of cheap shot in their life, and everybody has cheated to try and get ahead, so would you people please shut up, you can’t do anything by complaining about, Robert Kraft is not going to fire Belichick, and if he did, there would be teams lining up to make him their head coach. So let’s put this behind us and watch some football, please.

The best way to get people to stop talking about it is to, you know, stop talking about it. We just want to talk about how the Pats are cheaters, just like the Pats want to cheat. Does that make it right? No. But everybody takes some sort of cheap shot in life, right? The Pats are just making it really easy right now.

My thoughts exactly. Both Belichick haters and defenders should just let it go.

Well, I wikied it and fixed some typos, but I can't do anything for your content.

Where to begin? If Belichick simply wanted to be better, he should watch more video, have extra practices or improve in some other legal way. Yes, lots of people want to be better, but most don't resort to cheating to do it.

Second paragraph: You doubt that it is possible to cheat by using video? Then why are they doing it? Do they just have extra tapes lying around and have nothing better to do with them? Of course it works. Don't be silly.

Trying to deflect attention away from the Patriots is lame. We aren't talking about any of those other situations this week. For now, it is your turn. Deal with it. And you say a Titan caused Harrison to take HGH? What, he forced it on him? Harrison didn't want to take it, but that big bully Titan made him take HGH? Please.

I don't care if Kraft fires Belichick. He can stay in Boston for all I care. But I do think he should have been suspended for at least a couple games, and I think he and the Pats got off easy in that respect.

If you want to put it behind you and watch some football, by all means, stop making excuses. But don't complain when people make valid points regarding the poor actions of the Patriots this week.

I am tired of hearing about this. To me its not as big of a deal as other problems in sports such as: the basketball ref betting scandal, the gambling scandal in hockey (a few years back), Mike Vick, steriods, HGH, Barry Bonds...

It might not be as big as some of those other issues (debatable), but it is the news of the week. It isn't going away because it has happened to your favorite team.

btw, great article... I agree with everything you're saying... and I didn't know about the 4 coaches giving signals. Now I'm kinda pissed we lost a first round pick for nothing.

Of course, he was talking about the league as a whole, not the Pats as an organization. Hello, New England: you are the one percent.

Here is the article if you want to see for yourself. Scroll about halfway down to find this: "Really, a sad day for the NFL," Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy said after practice Friday. "It's another case of the 99 percent good things that are happening being overshadowed by 1 percent bad. Again, people aren't talking about our product, they're talking about a negative incident."

I think tomorrow's game is going to be great. I think LT will have a big game on the ground. He always runs over us, and last year's playoff game was no exception. I don't expect San Diego to make so many horrible mistakes this time. HOWEVER, we have a much better offense than we did for that playoff game. Our depth at WR really discourages man coverage, thus discouraging blitzing. And our offensive line looked pretty amazing in the first week against the 4 man rush.

And Norv Turner? C'mon, seriously.

I expect the Patriots will win 31-27, maybe even 31-30.

Belichick is (and always has been) overrated. And now he is a proven cheater. Ala an overrated cheater. All three of New England's Super Bowls are tainted and, to me (and millions like me) they have lost all of their luster as a team for the ages - or as even a great team. Deal with it, you blind, naive Pats fans!!!

I can't believe that I'm agreeing with an AF. I mean it's happened before but never this vigorously. Belichick is an absolute JOKE. The Patriots "dynasty" is an absolute JOKE. They are not even one of the best teams of this generation now, let alone anywhere near one of the all-time great teams. A travesty and a JOKE. Period.
