Gus Suhr (August Richard Suhr) was born on January 3, 1906 in San Francisco, California. He made his Major League debut on April 15, 1930 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1930, his rookie year, he hit .286 with 17 home runs and 107 RBI. Suhr played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 11 year career.

Most people believe that Gus Suhr's best season was 1936, when he hit for a .312 average and knocked in 118 runs.
