Gus Caesar signed amateur terms with Arsenal in August of 1982. He made his full professional debut on December 21, 1985 versus Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Gus is perhaps infamously known for his performance for Arsenal in the 1988 League Cup Final. The final was played in Wembley Stadium against Luton Town. With Arsenal leading 2-1 in the final six minutes Caesar miskicked an attempted clearance which allowed Luton's Danny Wilson to score the equalizer. Luton went on to score a last minute winner, Arsenal lost the match 3-2.
