Grossman the League LVP?

13
Vote

by user Dukeboy999

I have come to the conclusion that Rex Grossman should have the Least Valuable Player award created just for him. Of course, Grossman would recieve the award in its first year of existence. In the last seven weeks of play, Rex Grossman alone has turned the ball over three less times (18) than the Pittsburgh Steelers who lead the league during that time period with 21. And as with any MVP award, Grossman has to be considered at the top of the list because his team is at the top of the playoff race. While the playoff race is heating up, Rex is cooling down. In the last four games, against the Giants, Jets, Patriots and Vikings, Grossman has thrown 7 interceptions, and only 4 touchdowns. His average passer rating the last two weeks is 12.5. Not to mention the four times he has lost fumbles as well. Think his ability to make plays out of the pocket is a plus for Rex? Wrong again. He has been sacked 14 times this year for a combined loss of 100 yards. The fact that his team is still 10-2 is a miracle and mostly due to a very weak NFC. Grossman is the main reason that the best defense in the NFL has no shot to win the Super Bowl. After presenting my argument for this years award, I think Rex Grossman should be named this years league LVP.

Great idea, LVP. Grossman should surely be a candidate, but if this is the converse of the MVP then the fact that the Bears are playoff bound and succeeding despite him could preclude Grossman from being considered. LVP should be from a team that is terrible and not playoff eligible; grant exceptions to those who are underperforming due to injuries - sort of out of their control. Edgerrin James and Randy Moss could be nominated. And Mark Brunell, Drew Bledsoe, Kerry Collins should be seriously considered when looking at how the team and their replacements have fared without them contributing. I'd lean towards Bledsoe.

Wow... several weeks ago, he had votes for MVP. I don't think Rex is the LVP... that should go to a high priced player who is almost worthless to his team. Randy Mossis a great example.

Edgerrin James is still a solid RB, but his offensive line is terrible and they have a rookie QB throwing.

That being said, my vote goes to Nate Burleson. He signed a $49 million contract and is absolutely worthless this year.

Mike Vanderjagt. One, he's a kicker. Two, he signed a large contract (from a kicker's standpoint) only to get cut midway through the season for one of the Gramatica brothers.

If the MVP is taken off his team, the team would not be as good as they are. Shouldn't the LVP do the exact opposite for his team? I vote for Drew Bledsoe. When he was playing, the Cowboys were a joke, now that he is not playing they are a Super Bowl contender.

My argument is that the LVP has to be someone who plays... Bledsoe is on the bench now. Burleson plays, but adds nothing, and costs the team millions.

Why does Grossman bring out such extreme reactions? When he started hot everyone was touting him as the MVP or the next Brett Favre or something else ridiculous. Now that he's struggling, people are saying Grossman has nothing to offer the Bears.

I'll admit that Grossman has brought slim-to-none to the table the past few weeks, but he is still the BEars best option.

Griese is solidly unspectacular and not nearly as big of an upgrade as you would think. Some people point to his 5-1 record last year, but he was definitely not the reason for those wins. He had 7 TD' and 8 INT's; sounds a lot like Rex. In '03 Griese had 5 TD's and 10 TO's. It's not as though he is doesn't turn the ball over.

Think of it like this. Say it's the playoffs and the Bears defense, for whatever reason, has an off-day (a la last year's game against the Panthers) who do you think would actually be able to lead the offense to a good number of points? In that case I'd be willing to roll the dice on Grossman; Griese doesn't strike me as the type of guy that could rack up points.
