Green Bay gets one more year before armageddon

Well, it's official. Brett Favre will put off mowing lawns professionally and will return to the green and gold for one more season.

Possibly the most beloved player of all time by his hometown fans, Favre may be throwing himself to the wolves without a legitimate offensive line. But we admit, we love Brett (did we mention he mows his own lawn) and wish him the best.

We all know that Green Bay is like a well oiled machine and Brett Favre is the oil. Without the oil, the machine stops. The people of Green Bay will have one more year before their personal Jesus leaves and the city becomes nothing more than a glorified Gary, Indiana.

Can we be honest for a second? Brett Favre might be the oil of this machine but this machine has needed an oil change for about two years now.....

Xtinct is absolutely right. I understand Favre not wanting to let go, but he needs to let go. I think Aaron Rogers is legit. I think the Packers got a steal picking him up that late in the draft, and it's time he got his shot. I'm not gonna be one of those people who says he deserves it, like the throne is his to inherit or something. But seriously, he averaged almost 2 pics per game last year. Time to enjoy his old age and get outta there already.

Favre is a better option than Rodgers or a rookie if you want to win this year. Of course, others may be a better option than Favre, and Favre may not be able to bail out a sinking ship anyway.

Win what this year? Unless they have some major changes planned, this is a 6 - 10 team at best. Why not get Rodgers that experience now if he is going to be the future?

I agree again with Xtinct. Why not give him that experience? And you don't know that Favre is a better option than Rogers. The way he played last year, I think anyone's in play right now.

Rodgers wasn't drafted by this GB regime. I'd not be surprised if he never starts in GB. Who wants to start over with a QB someone else drafted?

Anyone who's interested in a legacy. They're going to lose next year. It's fairly unavoidable. Better to lose while developing a young talent than lose by having a veteran who's WAY past his prime get pounded in the pocket.

Rogers was drafted by the current GM, who hired the current head coach. Seems like the "current regime" to me.

It might be better for Favre to be there to help Rodgers this year. If GB are obviously not going to make the playoffs, then hand over to Rodgers, still with Favre there for assistance. If Favre does well, then obviously that's fine. That way we get the best of both worlds. Also, if one gets injured, we have the other.
