Greatest collapse ever?

When talk of the Mets historic demise calms down, as eventually it will, sports fans in the metropolitan area will most likely discuss the topic, bigger collapse 2004 Yankees or 2007 Mets.
Both were excruciatingly awful, where the teams were in a position of unofficial victory and then in a split second official/historical defeat. They both had high moments right before the whole thing collapsed, the Yankees defeating the Red Sox 19-8, while the Mets beat the Braves to take a 7 game lead. Both teams ignored warning signs, the Sox had scored 16 runs in 3 games, bad pitching doesn't usually turn around overnight, good hitting can get cold overnight though. The Mets even with a 7 game lead had essentially played .500 ball since the beginning of June, that might work in the NL Central but not in the East.
There is one thing that separates the Yankees and the Mets, a "the moment." Maybe in time we will figure out a moment that stands out above the rest, but the 2004 ALCS had moments all the time. The Roberts steal, the A-Rod slap, the bloody sock, Big Papi's walkoff hits, you say these and 2004 pops in your head.
What can you say about the Mets, the Marlon Anderson interference call? Tom Glavine 1/3 inning? I got to say that right now none of those moments conjure up all the emotions of the collapse, like the 2004 Yankees have, or the 1969 Cubs have with the black cat or the 1951 Dodgers have with the Bobby Thompson call ("The Giants Win The Pennant! The Giants Win The Pennant!). They may in the future but it is looking like the Mets might just fade back and become like the 1995 Angels who no one remembers or like the 2002 Giants who lost Game 6 when they were winning 5-0 in the 7 th and ended up losing 6-5. Needless to say the Giants lost Game 7, 4-1.
Until the Mets have a signature moment, it won't be the greatest collapse ever just a really bad moment
