Great Day in HIStory?

Last week was history...

Barry Bonds has made a place for himself in baseball history. He's officially become the Home Run King by surpassing Henry "Hank" Aaron's record of 755 HRs that has stood for 33 years. It was the bottom of the 5th inning when Nationals' pitcher, Mike Bacsik, threw a 84 mph fast ball on a 3-2 count with one out in the inning. Bonds hit that ball right out of the center field park. People dodged and dove for the ball that someday could be worth millions. A young man from Queens, NY - was there on his way to Sydney but lucked up to get tickets to the game - caught that famous ball. Bonds' son was the first person to hug him when he finally arrived at home plate. His mother, wife, daughters, and the famous "godfather" Willie Mays were in the stands celebrating before coming out the to field to personally congratulate him. Before all was said and done, the aforementioned Hank Aaron was on the Titantron giving his personal congrats. From one king to the other. Passing the torch. Placing the crown on the head of his successor. It was truly an honorable moment...or was it?

Last night, Barry was celebrating when there was a score of people that were't. Does it matter? No, it shouldn't. Barry did a great thing last night. He accepted the honor of becoming sports' newest golden boy with humility and grace. That's the heart of a true champion. My only disappointment is the fact that his accomplishment was marred and somewhat tainted by the accusations of taking sports enhancers. The head of this clan is Bud Selig, the commissioner of Major League Baseball. He's taken it upon himself to pinpoint Bonds as the main culprit when you should be going after the man that has exposed this down-low world, Jose Canseco. Why are you attacking people that are being named in a tell-all book of one person's opinion? Regardless of his retirement, bring the man that started this "War Against Steroids" you at one point were tackling single-handedly until you brought Congress in to contribute.

Bud, got a question for you...why did you take the job if you needed help let alone government help? As a commissioner you were elected by owners and executives to take on the responsibility of changing and policing the game. Yes, you've made great contributions to the game but you've sullied your legacy for being a coward. You can't even put aside your differences to celebrate this man tying the king regardless of surpassing the record. You attend the game. Someone has to force you to stand and when you do you put your hands in your pockets like a small child being chastised for not cleaning up the spilled milk. What is that?!? If you don't want to be there, be man enough to stay at home. Who needs your sour attitude spreading among people who have joy. Barry doesn't. I don't and majority of the world doesn't.

Bud Selig spent his night with Sen. George Mitchell, the former United States Senator who has taken an active role in helping Selig in his witch hunt. Yes, I called it a witch hunt. These two gentlemen are hunting down retirees and current players for something Bud knew about but didn't take action to fix. His problem is humiliation. He's embarrassed Jose Canseco exposed a world running right up under his nose. Under his watch. During his tenure. He's trying to rectify it because he's - well uh, basically too late to do anything about it.

Even if his current players are taking any performance enhancers, does he think they will purposely come out and ruin their career and the public's image of them to say so? The implications are far reaching but the evidence is nil to non-existant. You can't punish a person for speeding last week. So I guess going after Barry Bonds now will help you get revenge on people who did what back then? Bud, you have absolutely no control and you are losing what dignity you have left. Just move forward and quit this monstrosity for something that should have been addressed moons ago. Your star culprit just spat in your face. He hit home run 756. He is now the Home Run King. If Henry Aaron can congratulate him then so should you. You are an ambassador for a sport played worldwide and the world just saw what a yellow-bellied creep you are. Pathetic.
