Woopity woop woop ding! The Suns score Grant Hill and now have assured themselves a place in history…..well let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. But this is huge. Grant Hill brings the much needed bench/starter reserve role that the Suns needed. Case and point - game 5 of the Spurs v. Suns series. With Hill, the Suns close out that game. In any event, here is the good news:

This means absolutly nothing to the Suns future.

He should've signed with the Spurs. He would've had a better chance of winning a title.

The Spurs have a ZERO % chance next year. 2008 is an even number.

Grant Hill has one of the worst ankles in the history of basketball and has played in less than 30 games 4 of the last 6 seasons. Now he is going to keep up with the Suns run and gun style, and stay healthy riiiiiiiggggggghhhhhhhht! Actually, this probably will be Hill's first injury free year in ahwile since he is likely to become the next Jalen Rose. Of course there is always those pesky practice injuries. This is an atrocious signing in every way. I don't care how cheap he was, from Jim Jackson, to Walter McCarty, to Kurt Thomas to Rose these retreads just haven't worked. Until the Suns get a real bench and role players with championship experience they are never going to win a title.

but the precedent is here... Remember when the Suns brought in Penny Hardaway? OK, I'm gonna go laugh myself into a coma now...

Good point. His ankle is going to get really messed up.

at least he comes here without too much mileage... (weep, sob, sob) I hate Duke players and now my team has the Captain of the Duke Curse rubbing elbows with Nash and Amare every day... eff me with a giant F

Coming from a guy who thought Amare' for KG was a good move? While he will start here, its likely he wont play more than 25-30 minutes a game. Sort of like starting your sixth man. Considering Rose and Jackson and the other guys you mentioned were healthy and still didn't play, I think this is, on paper any way, a great move.

I will stand by the fact that Amare for KG would be a good move. Obviously I would rather give up Marion, but there are a lot of things below the surface.

The bottom line is your window of opportunity to win a title with Nash is closing, you have to win this year and KG gives you a better chance. Sure, you are mortgaging your future for one really good shot at a title, but this franchise has been around for 40 years and has never won one, I think they will take the trade off.

Stoudemire is a stud, no doubt, but he honestly doesn't fit with what the Suns do that well. He is an alpha dog who demands touches and would be much more effective in a Karl Malone type role. The Suns offense flows more smoothly without Stat, and Marion and Diaw are better when he is not around.

Adding KG makes sense in the Suns offense because he is better at passing out of double teams and will find the Suns 3-point-artists. Bell and Barbosa could get 200 3's apiece, hell, KG might average a triple double in Phoenix's offense. On top of that, having KG, Marion, and Bell gives you 3, plus defenders, to make up for Nash's shortcomings.

Not to mention that with Stoudamires knee his future is less than certain, and KG could have a Charles Barkley like re-emergence from getting out of Minnesota and getting to play with Nash.

How does signing a guy that is older than Nash and that hasn't played a meaningful playoff game in his career (and only 14 playoff games total) help OPEN Nash's window?

And on paper it's a great move, because you replaced Jumaine Jones and Jalen Rose with Grant Hill - meaning they didn't blow up the team, which MAY have been the best move to make regardless! I just don't like Grant Hill. This is not Bernard King we're talking about...

And KG wouldn't demand touches? You have to have alot of touches to average a triple double, no?

Amare's 24 or 24, KG is close to 32 or so. Saying what if Amare's knees go out again is the same as what if Hill doesnt pan out, or what if the Suns title window is closing.

Amare' is a stud, and when all is said and done, will likely be remembered as a better all round player than Garnett. I don't want him doing that in another uniform.

If you REALLY love the Suns, you'd trade Steve Nash before you'd trade Amare!!! And Marion before either of them. The Suns have played more playoff games during Amare's career than the T-Puppies have during KGs career.... NO DEAL, Howie!

I'm curious about this "bench/starter reserve role" I think that may be the first role in sports history to contradict itself twice. =)

Well Look at at this way, every one knos Grant can't even play 10 minutes without takin a rest what about the 82 games? What the suns have to do is get rid of Mario so they can bring in a monster like "Garnett" Marions role has litterly been cut out of the suns. But the wolfs won't just take marion they'll be wantin more, so a few small role player will make the deal work. The line up will go smething like this

C- Amare Stademire PF- Kevin Garnett SF- Grant Hill/ 2008 !st round pick(Hawks) SG- Lenardo Barbosa

PG- Steve Nash
