One of the main events on the snooker calendar is coming to Aberdeen for the first time, it has been revealed. The Grand Prix World Snooker Tour ranking event will be staged at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) in October.
The top 32 players in the world will qualify automatically and the event will be televised by the BBC.
Stephen Hendry (Scotland) and Ronnie O'Sullivan (England) will be among those trying to wrestle the title from John Higgins (Scotland).
Graeme Dott (Scotland), who recently won the world championship, said at the launch: "Snooker is so popular in Scotland and we have produced a lot of great players, so it's really important that there is a major tournament here and this is excellent news."
World Snooker director Jim McMahon added: "We know that support for snooker is strong in Aberdeen and we look forward to enthusiastic support from local fans."
