Got Yourself A Gun? Well Juan Uribe Apparently Does

by user Jeeves

I don't know how reliable this is, but this article states that Juan Uribe is wanted in the Dominican Republic for shooting two men. He shot an Italian naval officer and a farmer for reportedly walking too near his SUV. God only knows what Stephen Jack- sorry, Juan would have done had they been trying to steal his car.

So the question at hand, is will Juan be like Urbina and end up spending the year in jail? Many Sox fans have been calling for a new SS, and having Juan serving a year in jail would definitely delight that segment of White Sox fans. The possibilty of Juan serving jail time will only intensify the A-Rod to the White Sox rumors. So far I've heard Joe Crede and Mark Buehrle for A-Rod, as well as Joe Crede and Freddy Garcia for A-Rod rumors. Prepare to hear a few more rumors swirling. I'm not going to comment on what I think about the Sox getting A-Rod, that's fodder for another post. I will remind you, though, that A-Rod has a no-trade clause, so A-Rod has to be sold on coming to Chicago for any possible deal to occur.

I'll continue looking into this and post accordingly as I find out more information.

You can plug the article's web address into here to translate. The colloquisims don't quite translate properly, but you can get a sense of what's going on.

He may have a gun, but it sounds like he is all out of bullets. Damn, I expect this kind of behavior from White Sox fans, not players. I am just kidding, but wow. And thanks for the reminder about Urbina, I completely forgot about him.

Joe Crede for A-Rod would be a huge mistake - unless the White Sox don't want to win any more World Series - then it would be a great move.

Crede is on the verge of becoming a HUGE impact player, he hits well in the clutch, and is probably the second-best fielding 3rd baseman in the American League. And he's younger than E-Rod.

And A-Fraud is what A-Fraud is. I wouldn't want him on my team at the expense of Crede.

The only reason the Sox are entertaining the thought of this trade is because Scott Boras is Crede's agent. Jerry Reinsdorf and Kenny Williams have a bad history with Boras; frankly, they don't like eachother. Boras drove Mags away from us and he stonewalled Reinsdorf during contract negotiations, when A-Rod was a free agent. A doctor recommended that Crede get this minor outpatient surgery for his back; he'd be in and out in one day, but Boras has been trying to convince Crede not to do it. Why, you may ask? So that Crede can hit the open market in two years, once he's done with arbitration. The Sox have made it known that they won't sign Crede to a long term deal til he gets this surgery. If the Sox think they're going to lose Crede anyway, or that his back is a legitimate threat, then this trade makes sense.

The White Sox didn't miss the postseason because they couldn't hit...

That's true, but losing Crede would also cost us one of the top fielding third basement in the league. He doesn't get enough credit, becuase he has been overshadowed by Chavez, but Crede is an equally good fielder if not better. The reason why he hasn't won any gold gloves in the past is because he was a terrible hitter prior to '05.
