Born on April 2, 1930 in Portland, Oregon, Gordon Jones (Gordon Bassett Jones) played for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, San Francisco Giants, Baltimore Orioles, Kansas City Athletics, Houston Colt .45s and Houston Astros over the course of his 11 year career. Jones broke into the bigs on August 6, 1954 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 2.00 ERA in 81 innings pitched in 1954, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Gordon Jones's best season was 1954, when he posted a 2.00 ERA.
