Goodbye Hutchings From Wigan

by Rohandevgan

Chris Hutchings was the fourth manager to be sacked this season. He follows Jose Mourinho, Sammy Lee and Martin Jol. Wigan let Hutchings go after Wigan's weekend loss to Chelsea. Wigan are now in the relegations zone behind Tottenham on goal difference. Assistant Frank Bralow has been appointed manager as a caretaker. Hutchings was appointed in May following Paul Jewells resignation. Hutchings said that he was very happy with his achievement and was sad to leave the club. Wigan have 8 points from 12 games and slumped to their sixth straight Premiership loss this weekend. They next travel for a crucial tie against Spurs who are fighting to save their own season and also have a new coach.

I'm still at a loss as to Mourinho's sacking... Also, crazy that Spurs are actually closer to relegation than the top of the Premiership table.

Although I wouldn't shed a tear if Tottenham went down, I think the chances of them finishing the season are remote. The last 2 seasons they started slow and made it to 5th place. They may not rise as high, but I wouldn't be surprised if they finished in the top half of the table.

I think Lawrie Sanchez will also be sacked because Fulham USA are teetering towards the bottom.

The one thing though working for the relegation threatened team is how close everyone is. Get on even a small hot streak and you'll be safe.

People are saying that the crazy Jock Graham Souness is going to step in. I think it's really stupid to sack a manager after a game they were not expected to get anything from. If they lost to Derby, Fulham or Sunderland at home maybe, but a loss to resurgent Chelsea? That's a bit harsh IMO.

I recently read a really good article about how the teams that achieve real success and progress are the ones that don't bow to this ridiculous pressure for immediate results and have knee-jerk reactions to what are ultimately minor setbacks - think Arsenal, ManUre, Bolton under Allardyce, Charlton under Curbishley, Watford under Graham Taylor, Dario Gradi at Crewe, etc. I'm just happy that Watford didn't follow the trend at get rid of Aidy Boothroyd last year, and hopefully it's starting to pay off already, 15 games in to the season and 8 points clear at the top of the league, hopefully building a team capable of staying up there next time - and for a team our size that is real success!
