God ¨Bless¨ Dave O´Brien, Max Bretos

The reason I say this is for one reason only.  The people at Gol Tv must be salivating at these two and their inability to capture an audience the way that their own Ray Hudson is doing. Yes, I know Ray is a color guy while the other two are play-by-play.  But he has been able to bring in an audience that ESPN nor Fox could have imagined- especially in the English speaking market.   You talk to several people, company included, and I find myself not listetning to the games in Spanish as much.

I end up watching La Liga matches in English now.   This is all because the former Newcastle guy.  My friend put it best when he said that Ray ¨ is on the edge of having seven strokes every weekend.¨    That is the reason why I think he is the man as far as watching a match on TV every Sunday.  He, as opposed to O´Brien and Bretos, he sincerely feels the game.   So much so, that I feel like I am truly watching the game with a buddy of mine while we scream, yell, and throw stuff at the screen.  I wonder whether he does that while he´s doing the games?

Is he schtick?  I don´t think so.  That is the way he was prior to working on TV.  Which would lead to the conclusion that there is a fine line between personality and act... and he is nowhere close to wearing the clown shoes.

Speaking of clown shoes, if any of you think Ray is actually schtick and Max Bretos is not... well who´s done he All Blacks Haka on TV?  Just something to think about.

Is Ray biased, absolutely.  He has even admitted to being ¨biased¨.  He appreciates seeing the players that are the ¨artistes¨  of the game.  The players that are ¨orgasmic¨.   He is biased towards good football.  As compared to the inane Max Bretos.  He´s a great guy (as well as a fellow alum)  but I have to call it like I see it.  What he said in the Canada game after that poor excuse for line judge cheat Canada out of POSSIBLE Gold Cup final was nuts.

In addition the homerism (if there is such a word... I tend to make them up when I get pissed) was borderline repugnant.  I guess he forgets at times that the announcers on the WWE can get away with that because... WRESTLING´S FAKE.  I guess he and my old college  roommate don´t know that.  The only difference between the two is that at least Max doesn´t bet on wrestling.

O´Brien, first of all I have to give credit where credit is due.  He helped me overcome some bouts of insomnia while he did play by play for the Florida Marlins.  Nuff said.

But without these two, there is no way that we could appreciate the brilliance, wit, and true love of the game that  comes out of every pore of Ray Hudson.
