Gil Mains (Gilbert Lee Mains) was born on December 17, 1929 in Mount Carmel, Illinois. After going to high school at Mount Carmel (IL), Mains attended Murray State University. Mains made his professional debut in the NFL in 1953 with the Detroit Lions. He played for the Detroit Lions for his entire 9 year career.
Most people believe that 1955 was Gil Mains's best year, as he ran back a fumble for a touchdown.
