Gibby Welch (Gilbert L. Welch) was born on December 24, 1904 in Parkersburg, West Virginia. After going to high school at Bellefonte Abbey (PA) and Parkersburg (WV), Welch attended the University of Pittsburgh. Welch made his professional debut in the NFL in 1928 with the New York Yankees. He played for the Providence Steam Roller and New York Yankees over the course of his 2 year career.
