Giants Lose Game, Shockey

The Giants lost a home game to the Washington Redskins last night by the score of 22-10. The loss drops the Giants to 9-5 overall with a staggering 3-4 record at home. The Redskins outplayed the Giants the whole game and looked as if they were the more determined team. The Giants had a chance to clinch a wildcard birth in the NFC with a win but must still wait at least one more week to secure a birth in their third consecutive post-season.

The most glaring stat of the game was the fact that the Giants had at least 9 legitamate dropped passes including 2 by the usually sure handed Amani Toomer. The Redskins offense was not stunning but they did not turn the ball over and ran the ball well enough to control the flow of the game. The Giants had plenty of chances to make the game close in the fourth quarter but the offense continued to struggle in the redzone, the team also had trouble converting in short yardage situations ( could someone please tell me why the Giants have the biggest runningback in the league in Brandon Jacobs and use Reuben Droughns as the short yardage back). The only player who was able to get into the endzone for the Giants was backup tight end Kevin Boss who will see an extended amount of action since Jeremy Shockey is now out for the season. Shockey fractured his leg on a running play when he was rolled up on by teammate Amani Toomer. Shockey had not been playing very well of late and was clearly not on the same page as Eli Manning but the loss of Shockey will still hurt since the outside receivers will face more double teams now.

Sinorice Moss of the Giants made two completely boneheaded plays when he caught key 3rd down passes but then proceeded to run backwards while trying to make a big play and lost the first down on both occasions. Steve Smith was active for the first time since the Giants week one loss to Dallas and made an amazing catch in the fourth quarter. Smith should be utilized more as the season wears on because defensive backs give him a ton of cushion and he is a sure handed target for Eli Manning to throw too.

The Giants play the Buffalo Bills next week on the road where they apparently feel more comfortable with a 6-1 road record with their only loss being week 1 against Dallas. The game should be toughly contested as the Giants will be trying to clinch a playoff birth before playing the New England Patriots in week 17 and the Bills will be fighting for their playoff lives after being shutout by the Browns this week.

How many times did the cameras capture Tom Coughlin grimacing as though he were passing kidney stones on the sideline?

Good thing Giants won't have any playoff games at home. I guess that's a good sign... -Kwass

Coughlin grimacing is better than when he asks people what is going on.

Does this guy ever not whine, bitch or moan? No wonder the players tune him out.

Shockey can be a pain in the ass sometimes, but he is an integral part of the team. He always plays hurt and plays hard. You can tell how much of a gamer he is, by just looking at how facking pissed and disappointed he was when he was getting carted off the the field because he knew his season was over.

he's been a much better blocker this season...ask derrick Ward... Shockey was an emotional leader and a pretty talented player...I will say that his BS might relax Eli a little, but at the same time, where does the offense get its fire or its short pass talent?

Yeah I agree, its going to be real tough to replace him. The new primary TE Boss (a rookie) seems to be pretty decent. He's a big mofo, and Madden said he has "real nice hands". Eli found him for a score on Sunday night, so maybe he will get more action and see what he can do. I will say this, they definitely won't get their short passing game going with Brandon Jacobs.
