Giants - Cowboys Set Cable TV History

12
Vote

This past Monday's big NFC East matchup between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys was the largest cable audience ever. With over an estimated 16 million viewers, the 36-22 Giants victory on ESPN topped the record set by the 1993 NAFTA debate between Al Gore and Ross Perot.

This is the first season that Monday Night Football has been on cable TV -- ABC televised the event for 36 years. Ratings so far this season have been excellent, as NFL fans have been treated to the first Saints home game at the Superdome since Hurricane Katrina, and an improbable Bears comeback victory over the Arizona Cardinals to preserve their unbeaten season.

The ratings have been good despite what ESPN has done to MNF -- I can't deal with Kornheiser and Theismann together anymore...Tirico is..eh (why didn't they use Mike Patrick!?)...also, I couldn't deal with all these people they keep having on during the game...do I really need to know about Emmit Smith and how he prances around all day? Please, just show the game, and talk about football!...and Go Big Blue!!!

Theismann was bad enough, then they had to add Kornheiser...bad move. I still watch the games, albeit with the sound off.

if there wasn't a lag on the HD broadcast, I would have put on my local radio coverage (which is awesome)

Thiesmann is definately the worst of the two. Kornheiser does make me chuckle every once in a while... but both of them are great for casual observers and for some reason my girl likes them both, if she can handle it and not nag, then i can handle and not bitch. haha.

ESPN still sucks. Kornheiser is a joke.

The Deadspin take on this is great -- proves how much ESPN sucks.
