Born on December 20, 1899 in Ida Grove, Iowa, George Pipgras (George William Pipgras) played for the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 11 year career. Pipgras broke into the bigs on June 9, 1923 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 4.11 ERA in 166.1 innings pitched in 1927, his rookie year.

Most people believe that George Pipgras's best season was 1928, when he posted a 3.38 ERA, won 24 games and struck out 139 batters.
