Born on December 15, 1868 in Carrollton, Ohio, George Hemming (George Earl Hemming) played for the Cleveland Infants, Brooklyn Wonders, Brooklyn Bridegrooms, Louisville Colonels, Cincinnati Reds and Baltimore Orioles over the course of his 8 year career. Hemming broke into the bigs on April 21, 1890 with the Cleveland Infants, and put up a 4.25 ERA in 144 innings pitched in 1890, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was George Hemming's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1895, when he posted a 4.05 ERA and won 20 games. However, others believe that it was 1896, when he posted a 4.19 ERA and won 15 games.
