George Hartong (George Howard Hartong) was born on July 18, 1896 in Joliet, Illinois. After going to high school at Joliet Township (IL), Hartong attended Unversity of Chicago. Hartong made his professional debut in the APFA in 1921 with the Hammond Pros. He played in the APFA for 1 year, playing for the Hammond Pros the entire time. Hartong also played in the NFL for 2 years, playing for the Chicago Cardinals and Racine Legion over the course of his 2 year NFL career.
