George Gore (George F. Gore) was born on May 3, 1857 in Saccarappa, Maine. He made his Major League debut on May 1, 1879 for the Chicago White Stockings. In 1879, his rookie year, he hit .263 with 0 home runs and 32 RBI. Gore played for the Chicago White Stockings, New York Gothams, New York Giants and St. Louis Perfectos over the course of his 14 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was George Gore's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1886, when he hit for a .304 average and knocked in 63 runs. However, others believe that it was 1889, when he stole 28 bases, hit for a .305 average and knocked in 54 runs.
