Born on February 15, 1900 in New York, New York, George Earnshaw (George Livingston Earnshaw) played for the Philadelphia Athletics, Chicago White Sox, Brooklyn Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 9 year career. Earnshaw broke into the bigs on June 3, 1928 with the Philadelphia Athletics, and put up a 3.81 ERA in 158.1 innings pitched in 1928, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was George Earnshaw's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1931, when he posted a 3.67 ERA, won 21 games and struck out 152 batters. However, others believe that it was 1929, when he posted a 3.29 ERA, won 24 games and struck out 149 batters.
