George Bechtel (George A. Bechtel) was born on September 2, 1848 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on May 20, 1871 for the Philadelphia Athletics. In 1872, his rookie year, he hit .300 with 0 home runs and 42 RBI. Bechtel played for the Philadelphia Athletics, New York Mutuals, Philadelphia White Stockings, Philadelphia Centennials and Louisville Grays over the course of his 6 year career.

Most people believe that George Bechtel's best season was 1872, when he hit for a .300 average.
