George Atkinson (George Henry Atkinson) was born on January 4, 1947 in Savannah, Georgia. After going to high school at Sol C. Johnson (Savannah, GA), Atkinson attended Morris Brown College. Atkinson made his professional debut in the AFL in 1968 with the Oakland Raiders. He played in the AFL for 2 years, playing for the Oakland Raiders the entire time. Atkinson also played in the NFL for 9 years, playing for the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos over the course of his 9 year NFL career.
Most people believe that 1971 was George Atkinson's best year, as he picked off 4 passes and ran back a fumble for a touchdown.
