Born on January 11, 1899 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, General Crowder (Alvin Floyd Crowder) played for the Washington Senators, St. Louis Browns and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 11 year career. Crowder broke into the bigs on July 24, 1926 with the Washington Senators, and put up a 3.96 ERA in 100 innings pitched in 1926, his rookie year.

Most people believe that General Crowder's best season was 1932, when he posted a 3.33 ERA, won 26 games and struck out 103 batters.
