Gene Richards (Eugene Richards) was born on September 29, 1953 in Monticello, South Carolina. He made his Major League debut on April 6, 1977 for the San Diego Padres. In 1977, his rookie year, he hit .290 with 5 home runs and 32 RBI. Richards played for the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants over the course of his 8 year career.

Most people believe that Gene Richards's best season was 1980, when he stole 61 bases and hit for a .301 average.
