Gene Heeter (Eugene Elwood Heeter) was born on April 19, 1941 in Windber, Pennsylvania. After going to high school at Windber (PA), Heeter attended West Virginia University. Heeter made his professional debut in the AFL in 1963 with the New York Jets. He played for the New York Jets for his entire 3 year career.

Most people believe that 1963 was Gene Heeter's best year.
