Born on September 5, 1920 in Lexa, Arkansas, Gene Bearden (Henry Eugene Bearden) played for the Cleveland Indians, Washington Senators, Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Browns and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 7 year career. Bearden broke into the bigs on May 10, 1947 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 2.43 ERA in 229.2 innings pitched in 1948, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Gene Bearden's best season was 1948, when he posted a 2.43 ERA, won 20 games and struck out 80 batters.
