The Boston Red Sox rode an old pitcher and a reviled hitter into a Game 6 win tonight over the Cleveland Indians, 12-2. Curt Schilling (W, 2-0) improved his career postseason record to 10-2 overall (6-0 at home), and is putting together a great playoff run in what should be his final season with Boston. J.D. Drew started the beatdown in the first with a grand slam off of Cleveland starter Fausto Carmona (L, 0-1) and had 5 RBI (his only RBI of the ALCS) on three hits overall, earning a great deal of adoration from the Fenway Faithful that had eluded him to this point in the season. The Red Sox piled it on from there, scoring 6 more runs in the third inning, effectively ending the game.
Carmona did exactly what I said he needed to avoid doing, and that was walk the Boston batters -- four of them in 2+ innings. After shutting down the Yankees in the division series, Carmona has been nothing short of dreadful against Boston in his two starts.

Grady Sizemore, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Travis Hafner, the 1-2-3 hitters for Cleveland, were a combined 0-12 in this game. Hafner has been especially bad in the LCS, hitting only .130. Victor Martinez was really the lone bright spot for the Indians on offense, leading off the second inning with a bomb off of Schilling into the right field bleacher seats, and basically showing Sizemore how it was done (Grady had smoked one just foul over Pesky's Pole to lead off the game before making an out). In direct contrast to the Cleveland top of the order was the Boston bottom of the order, who came through big time in this game. Drew, Jason Varitek, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Julio Lugo were a combined 5-17 with two walks and 8 RBI.
Notes: Manny Ramirez saw his 15-game LCS hitting streak end, as he went 0-2 with two walks... Aaron Laffey relieved Carmona and pitched worlds better than the Cleveland ace, going 4 2/3 while only giving up one hit... The Indians have turned 11 double plays this series -- an LCS record.
Coming up next: Game 7! Daisuke Matsuzaka and the rest of the Boston pitching staff will try to complete the comeback, facing Jake Westbrook, who shut them down in Game 3. You have to think that we'll see some of Josh Beckett and C.C. Sabathia as well. All the stops come out for the right to host the Colorado Rockies in the World Series!
