Galaxy get a makeover for Beckham

Fitting the arrival of a soccer player known as much for his look as his dead ball skills, the LA Galaxy have presented a new logo and jersey for the team.  Gone is the old green and gold color scheme that has been the Galaxy's trademark since the franchise's founding.  Instead, this will be the team's new logo:

In addition to a new logo, the team will also be getting new duds as well.  Yesterday, the new jerseys were shown and available for purchase for the first time.  Here's a look at the home jersey:

Color me uninspired by the new look.  The logo is alright, but a bit boring.  I'm not a fan of the yellow things on the side of the jersey, but it is something Adidas has been doing on many of their kits recently (See Real Salt Lake [1] and Liverpool [2]).

And still, no one in America really cares about soccer.

It's not too popular with adults, but it is being taught to kids in elementary, middle and k12 schools. If this one person can be the trigger to get our children into it, he will have done his job. We might as well join the rest of the world sometime soon and if this will get rid of some of the American arrogance that pervades the world, it will be worth it.

Beckham's arrival seems to have had an effect on MLS already. Not that any MLS team can compete with the bottom of the Premiership, because I doubt it, but more that it is more visible to people. Friends of mine will make commentary about the league, when they don't even care about soccer. People actually know what I'm talking about when I mention a player or team. People still may not be all that interested or intrigued by the prospect of MLS, but they are aware of its existence. This can ben considered a step in the right direction.
