In the middle of one of the worst seasons in Green Bay Packers' history there was one very bright spot, and that was the emergence of running back Samkon Gado. The running back born in Nigeria came out in a big way after injuries to Ahman Green, Najeh Davenport, and Tony Fisher. The Packers claimed Gado off of Kansas City Chiefs Waivers and Gado emerged as a star and led the Packers to 2 of their 4 victories last year, against Atlanta and Detroit. Gado still needs some work, he tended to fumble too much, but in the games he played in before injury Gado showed a combination of speed and power unlike any of the other Packers' backs. Indeed Mike Sherman installed a speed running system headlined with fumble prone Ahman Green, but with new coach Mike McCarthey wanting a power running attack expect Gado to be the feature back. Gado will be able to handle the load, because in his first game he had more than 30 carries, and that trend continued through all of the other games he played in. Infact before he got hurt against Chicago he actually had scored a touchdown that put the Packers in the lead against the Bears. He was not scared of the vaunted Bears' defense and was running pretty effectively before the injury. This kid will be a breakout star, and not just because of his incredible talent but because of his attitude as well. Sam Kon is so happy to even be playing that he is working harder than anyone on the team in the offseason. Running Backs coach Edgar Bennett has repeatedly said that he has actually had to throw Gado out of his office because he was annoying him too much. This thirst for knowledge, and the workman like attitude paired with great physical talents should lead to a good year for Gado, reagaurdless of what the Packers as a team accomplish.
