Kasson Gabbard had perhaps the best outing of his short career, striking out eight Kansas City Royals in a complete game effort. The outing was Gabbards first complete game of his career. The Royals managed just three hits on the night and two of the hits belonged to Emil Brown. “He pitched a very, very solid game, and pitched the way you’re supposed to pitch” said manager Terry Francona.
Kasson Gabbard also got some help from his friends, as Dustin Pedriora picked up a groundball up the middle and made a great throw to first base to get Gabbard out of a bases loaded jam. In the Red Sox half of the fourth, Pedroria who just made a spectacular play led things off and took a Brian Bannister high fastball deep in to the deepest possible part of the monster seats. After a David Ortiz fly out, Manny Ramirez took a pitch over the green monster into the light tower located on the right side of the monster. In the sixth inning Dustin Pedroria bloop a single in to shallow centerfield. David Ortiz followed and wrapped a fastball down the right field line around Pesky’s pole.
After Big Papi took Bannister deep the scoring would end and the Red Sox and Kasson Gabbard would hang on to the shutout and come away with the win, Gabbard held the Royals to just three hits while walking one and hitting two. The New York Yankees also won yesterday and the AL Eat lead is now at 9 games, the Royals play the Sox again tonight at 7:05 PM.
