The best part of the year has just begun! Now through Christmas, each week just gets better and better. However, even if this is the time of the year for fun and excitement, the Friday Fryer continues on. . . . So who is the lucky individual who gets the Chair this week?
The first finalist is the NFL. Ok, I like the idea of having a yearly kick-off game. Thursday night is fine as well. But game time at 8:30 pm> Yo NFL, did you not learn the lessons of Major League Baseball? How many young fans were able to stay up and watch any part of the game? How many old fogies were able to stay up until the end? The NFL is getting way too greedy, and if they don’t realize it soon, they will go the way that MLB did in the 1980’s and 1990’s.
The next finalist is Detroit Lions assistant coach, Joe Cullen. I guess in the Year of the Arrested Player, Mr. Cullen wanted to show his support for all those players who have spent time in police lock-up. Anyway, within two weeks recently, Mr. Cullen was arrested: (1) for driving under the influence of alcohol, and (2) for driving while nude. Yes, you read that right. Driving while NUDE.
I do not think I can add anything to the Driving while Nude charge, except that I guess it made the Sisters’ initiation of Cullen in jail a little easier. (BTW – For the Lions fan out there – wow, your team is more cursed than a Philadelphia sports team – I feel your pain.)
And now the winner – the parent / assistant coach of a pee-way football team that went out and blind-slided an opposing player (kid). Sure, the kid did commit a late hit and should have been flagged for 15 yards, HOWEVER, A COACH / PARENT SHOULD NEVER RUN ONTO THE FIELD AND BLIND-SLIDE A PLAYER. Two wrongs don’t make a right. You not only embarrass yourself, your kid, your team, you embarrass everyone who cares about sports. When the time comes where sportsmanship is completely forgotten in the world of sports will be the time I find myself a new hobby. As you can see, I said when not if – for with acts like this – it is only a matter of time before sportsmanship is completely lost. And for that, this parent / coach gets the Chair for September 8, 2006.
Special thanks to Pean, who nominated the Chair winner this week, and Alex H., who nominated someone who just missed making the final round of the Chair competition.
So remember, if you have someone you want in the Friday Fryer Chair, just nominate him to me.
Until next week, AMF!
