| B.J. Ryan
|
| Ryan began the season as the highly touted closer for the Toronto Blue Jays. Ryan, however, quickly injured his pitching elbow in early April, and has been on the disabled list since. His stint on the DL will now last for the rest of the season, for Ryan underwent Tommy John surgery this week.
The good news is that many pitchers now come back from this major surgery, which involves replacing a ligament in the elbow. I do hope Ryan can come back as well and pitch at the high level he was at once. Nonetheless, since the surgery occurred this week and it ends Ryan’s 2007 season, he gets a nomination for the Friday Fryer.

| The Prudential Center
|
| The Prudential Center, when completed, will be the new home for the New Jersey Devils. The Center is expected to open in September, just in time for the start of the next NHL season. Unfortunately, at this time, the building is no where near completion. We are talking about the roof having a giant hole in it, while the outside walls are still not done. As of this morning, work on the structural steel itself was still being done. Oh my, this thing is WAY behind schedule.
It was reported earlier this year that the Devils will be playing in lovely Hartford, CT if there new home is not done in time. At the rate construction is moving, they may as well spend the entire season up in Hartford. Maybe that would be a good thing, since the Devils may not be very good next year. Anyway, the lack of progress on the arena earns the Prudential Center its first Friday Fryer nomination.

| Roger Clemens
|
| Is it me or has Clemens simply turned himself in a professional whore? Lets call a spade a spade here. You have Clemens, who now decides that he is only going to pitch four months of the season, skipping spring training and the first two months of the season, for a cool $18 million. Oh yeah, Clemens is not required to be with the club on road trips and the like, if he is not scheduled to pitch. What a teammate this Clemens fellow is?
It is sad to see what the New York Yankees are becoming. It may pain me to say this, but they are the most historic franchise in baseball. Unfortunately, they are becoming what the New York Rangers were to hockey, pre-lockout. Sure the organization wants to win one more championship before George passes, but this is not the way to get to the promise land.
Nonetheless, Clemens, for deciding only to pitch a fraction of a season at a high price and without the need to be a full-fledge teammate, gets the Friday Fryer nomination this week. Why do I think it will not be his only one this summer?
