Hey Hey Hey - It's time to see who gets to go to the Chair for their actions in the sports world this week.
The first finalist is the New York Knicks and Isiah Thomas. The Knicks were one of the worse teams in the NBA last season. However, they did not have a lottery pick because of a previous trade. The Knicks did have two late first round picks. The second pick, taking Temple Owls senior M. Collins may turn out well. But the first selection - WHO? The Knicks and Thomas get nominated, but they are spared the Chair...for this week.
Next finalist is the Arrested Player. Yes, since I last wrote the Friday Fryer, two additional professional athletes have gone to the pokey. At some point this year, the Arrested Player, honoring all those who have spent time behind the slammer, will be getting the Chair. But this is not the week. . . .
Hence, the one who gets the Chair this week is the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Not only has the team failed to make the playoffs since 1993 (and will fail to do so again this year), but they have also handled the Brett Myers alleged wife beating situation as well as a raging bull handles himself in a small china store. It simply was not pretty. Oh yeah, the Phillies also employ Charlie Manuel as their manager, a man who is simply overmatched at the MLB level. Yet, they let him flop along, as if the good old boys network is still in place. Well, maybe that is the main reason - the good old boys network still in use by the Phils - why the organization gets the Chair this week.
DRAWING CONTEST - This is the fifth installment of the Friday Fryer. And well, it is time to add some art to the weekly article. I can draw as well as the Phillies pitchers can pitch, so I am sending a shout out to the readers of this article. Send me your theme drawings and I will pick the best one to use! Good luck.
