Fred Lewis (Frederick Miller Lewis) was born on October 13, 1858 in Buffalo, New York. He made his Major League debut on July 2, 1881 for the Boston Red Caps. In 1883, his rookie year, he hit .279 with 1 home run and 51 RBI. Lewis played for the Boston Red Caps, St. Louis Browns, Philadelphia Quakers, St. Louis Maroons and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 5 year career.

Most people believe that Fred Lewis's best season was 1886, when he hit for a .318 average.
