Born on February 9, 1916 in Hartford, Connecticut, Freddy Schmidt (Frederick Albert Schmidt) played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 3 year career. Schmidt broke into the bigs on April 25, 1944 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 3.15 ERA in 114.1 innings pitched in 1944, his rookie year.
