Fred Whitfield

Fred Whitfield (Fred Dwight Whitfield) was born on January 7, 1938 in Vandiver, Alabama. He made his Major League debut on May 27, 1962 for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1962, his rookie year, he hit .266 with 8 home runs and 34 RBI. Whitfield played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds and Montreal Expos over the course of his 9 year career.
Most people believe that Fred Whitfield's best season was 1965, when he slugged 26 home runs, hit for a .293 average and knocked in 90 runs.
