Born on December 11, 1888 in Nashville, Tennessee, Fred Toney (Fred Alexandra Toney) played for the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, New York Giants and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 12 year career. Toney broke into the bigs on April 15, 1911 with the Chicago Cubs, and put up a 2.42 ERA in 67 innings pitched in 1911, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Fred Toney's best season was 1917, when he posted a 2.20 ERA, won 24 games and struck out 123 batters.
