Fred Murphy (Fred J. Murphy) was born on February 20, 1938 in Atlanta, Georgia. After going to high school at Fulton (Atlanta, GA), Murphy attended Georgia Institure of Technology. Murphy made his professional debut in the NFL in 1960 with the Cleveland Browns. He played for the Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Browns over the course of his 2 year career.

Most people believe that 1960 was Fred Murphy's best year.
