Franco Oldest Man to Hit Homer

New York Met bench-player Julio Franco became the oldest man to hit a homerun in major league baseball history. Franco, 47 years, 240 days old, drilled a game-winning HR against the San Diego Padres lifting the Mets to a 7-2 win. Franco surpassed Jack Quinn of the Philadelphia A's for the distinction of being the oldest man to his a HR. In 1930, Quinn, a pitcher with the A's hit a HR against the St. Louis Browns at the age of 46 years, 357 days. When teammate Tom Glavine was asked about this accomplishment, Glavine said: "Julio is old . . . old and decrepit . . . But he can hit. And that's why he's here."
